Beaches and COVID-19:
The health unit encourages visitors to the beach to be aware of the potential for exposure to COVID-19. Helpful tips to keep in mind when visiting the beach:
- Follow beach safety protocols and procedures as posted or instructed by staff
- Stay home if you or any member of your family is sick
- Visit a beach closer to home to reduce travel and the risk of spreading the virus elsewhere
- If you arrive at the beach and find it is crowded and is making it difficult to stay two metres (six feet) apart, have a backup plan to do another fun activity
- Bring hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to use at the beach, especially if soap and water are unavailable
- Avoid swallowing, spitting or spouting water while swimming
- Consider, if permitted at the beach items such as, tents, umbrellas, blankets, pool noodles or hula hoops to help maintain physical distance from others on the beach
