Maple Syrup has long been part of the cultural fabric in Kawartha Lakes. Every Spring in Kawartha Lakes when the snow begins to melt the busy maple sugaring season begins. But on-farm experiences offering tours and tastings are available in both the Fall and Spring in Kawartha Lakes as well as numerous maple syrup producers selling their products at local farmers markets and retail locations year-round.

Clancey and Gale's Maple Products

Clancey & Gale’s Maple Products is located in Pontypool, Ontario and has been producing local maple syrup since 2011.

Since 2012, they have been collecting sap using pipelines, with the number of taps growing over the years to 2,200 taps. Thirty percent of their maple sap is trucked back to our sugar house; the balance is pumped directly to their holding tanks at their sugar house.

Regular participants in Maple Weekend, they offer pre-booked tours that includes a trip to the sugar shack and an opportunity to taste the different syrups over pancakes or waffles. If you can't make it up for the festival, you can pre-order their maple products for curbside pick-up to bring a taste of the Kawarthas home.

Puddleduck Farm
Puddleduck Farm

Located just outside the village of Millbrook, Puddleduck farms has produced delicious, sweet maple syrup from their sugar bush since they took over the maple syrup production in 2011.

With approximately 2,300 taps put in each year, their whole sugar bush uses a vacuum pipeline system, where the sap is drawn from the spile down through the pipeline to a holding tank. Using a reverse osmosis system to concentrate the sap and reduce boiling time, the sap is processed in a wood fired evapourator.

The end product is used to make maple butter, maple sugar candies, and granulated maple sugar. Stop by the farm during syrup season to see the sugar making process and taste the flavours of the season.
