Kawartha Lakes Comfort Foods

Posted Monday September 07, 2020

In times of stress and uncertainty many of us could use a little extra comfort. Food has an incredible ability to bring people together and to help us express love and friendship or bring back happy memories with our friends and family.

2020 has brought many changes for the way we work, live and socialize but fortunately we still have the ability to enjoy delicious foods.

Whether you are interested in cooking a nourishing meal at home or indulging your sweet tooth, Kawartha Lakes is home to an abundance of delicious comfort foods that the whole family will enjoy.

Comfort Food for Cooking at Home

Kawartha Lakes is a thriving agricultural community - which makes it easy to get farm to table ingredients at the cottage or to take home with you! Farmstands dot country roads and there are a wide variety of producers, farms and farmers’ markets where you can pick up locally grown and made food products.

Kawartha Choice FarmFresh is a website that can help you find out what’s in season and where you can find your favourite foods.

Comfort Food to Indulge Your Sweet Tooth

Sometimes only something sweet will do! Find a local bakery serving up all of your favourite treats or enjoy some signature Kawartha Lakes flavours.

Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream

Since 1937, Kawartha Lakes has been home to the best ice cream to ever be scooped from a carton. Kawartha Dairy is a 100% Canadian-owned company, operated by the same family that started it, and still headquartered in Bobcaygeon where it was first founded.

Butter Tarts

Ontario's largest self-guided year-round Butter Tart Tour is located right here in the Kawartha Lakes region.  Start your tour at one of our local Butter Tart Tour destinations and visit the Kawarthas Northumberland website

Maple Syrup

Next time you're visiting Kawartha Lakes, especially in the Spring visit a sugar producer and buy some maple syrup.  Not only are you bringing a piece of Kawartha Lakes home with you, but you’re supporting the agricultural heritage and the local sugarmakers. The best part is, you’re purchasing maple products directly from the people who produce them.
