The City of Kawartha Lakes is located on the northeast border of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and just over an hour from seven major freeways. Algonquin Park, Muskoka, and Halliburton lie to the north, Lake Simcoe to the west, Durham Region and the GTA to the south, and Peterborough to the east. Several of Canada's major 400-series highways (400, 401, 404, 407), the Trans Canada Highway 7, and Provincial Highways 35 and 115 provide fast access to other Canadian cities and major US border crossings.
Small plane travel is possible to the Kawartha Lakes Municipal Airport located in Lindsay, and the Peterborough Airport, located thirty-five minutes east of Kawartha Lakes. The Oshawa Airport, a full service commercial aviation facility, is within forty minutes of Kawartha Lakes and thirty miles east of Toronto. Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto is a one and one-half hour drive 135km (83 miles) from Kawartha Lakes. Pearson International is Canada's busiest airport, serving more than twenty-six million passengers annually and is serviced by all global airlines.
