Kinmount
Kinmount is located on the Burnt River for which the village was originally named. Geographically the village of Kinmount is on the fringe of three countries including Victoria (now City of Kawartha Lakes), Peterborough County and Haliburton. As well it touches Somerville, Galway, Snowdon, and Lutterworth Townships. The name Kinmount originates from Kinmount, Scotland, located near the fringe of the Scotland/England Border.
Visited by Icelandic settlers and later by Scottish immigrants, this pretty little town with a population of 300, is set amongst steep hills and has become a popular summer spot to catch a movie or enjoy a snack of Fish and Chips. It is believed that the town name could have been borrowed from Sir Walter Scott's poem "The Ballad of Kinmount Willie".
Kinmount provides the perfect backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts year-round, whether it is canoeing, kayaking, snowmobiling or x-country skiing. The Highlands Cinema and Movie Museum features a 550 seat complex with 5 movie theatres as well as a vast collection of theatre artifacts including one of Irving Berlin's abele motion picture cameras and more.
